Volunteerism in the United Arab Emirates is a key pillar in strengthening national identity and promoting the values of giving, tolerance, and social cohesion. It represents a firmly rooted social value that serves the community, enhances solidarity and mutual support among its members, contributes to improving public service efficiency, and instills a sense of national belonging. It also transforms individual skills into comprehensive developmental achievements

Volunteers in the UAE form a vital resource in both the public and private sectors, contributing to building a better future for generations to come. The state has placed great emphasis on regulating volunteer work through laws and national platforms, which has helped expand community participation, improve quality of life, and achieve a sustainable positive impact across various sectors. Volunteering also strengthens social cohesion and fosters a strong sense of responsibility

A Way of Life Volunteer Ahmed Bin Ajlan, Founder and Chairman of the Ataa Hamdan Volunteer Team, views volunteering as one of the fundamental pillars in building cohesive societies, as it strengthens the values of citizenship. He noted that the UAE has made volunteering a way of life. He explained that since 2003, he has focused on supporting humanitarian initiatives, empowering youth, and serving the community, and has participated in numerous community and police-related events. He added that volunteering directly contributes to unifying citizens and residents, enhancing cooperation and shared responsibility, especially as UAE society is considered a model of humanitarian solidarity and community engagement

He pointed out that the initiatives implemented by the Ataa Hamdan Volunteer Team aim to serve all segments of society, including workers, senior citizens, and people of determination, reflecting the cohesion between citizens and residents. He said that volunteering is a humanitarian message that promotes noble values and supports societal stability, and that investing in it is an investment in the nation’s future, as it plays a major role in preparing an aware and proactive generation that carries responsibility and contributes to the country’s continued progress and achievements

Sustainable Development Mohammed Wasim, a member of the Ataa Hamdan Volunteer Team, said: “I am keen on serving the community through volunteering, and as a resident of the UAE, I take pride in belonging to a country that has made volunteer work a civilized approach, where I have witnessed the level of support the state provides to this vital sector and its continuous efforts to instill a culture of social responsibility and empower individuals to actively contribute to sustainable development.” He added that he has gained valuable skills in field leadership and team management, as well as the ability to make decisions under pressure and handle various challenges efficiently. The experience has also helped him develop communication skills, build relationships, and coordinate between different entities to ensure the success of initiatives with the highest quality standards

Human Development Engineer Jaber Butti Al Ahbabi, Founder and Chairman of the “Watan Volunteer Team,” stated that the team’s initiatives are an extension of the authentic values known in UAE society. The team highlights the importance of volunteering and its role in building individuals and preparing a generation that is aware of its community issues and believes in positive participation and creating sustainable social impact. He added that the “Watan Volunteer Team” continues its community mission through qualitative initiatives aimed at strengthening values of citizenship, belonging, and giving. He explained that the team pays special attention to community councils as important national spaces for meaningful dialogue, exchange of views, and raising awareness. These councils contribute to discussing social issues, strengthening national identity, supporting families, and reinforcing social responsibility and cooperation between individuals and institutions in serving the nation

Sense of Belonging Wafa Al Shamsi, a member of the “Watan Volunteer Team,” said that volunteering instills the concepts of good citizenship in both children and adults. She said she has had the honor of engaging in various volunteer fields, particularly in education, where she used her experience in teaching Arabic to design initiatives that develop language skills and strengthen national identity. Her work also extended to educational and awareness initiatives targeting different segments of society

She added that her volunteer experience has given her a firm belief that true impact is not measured only by what we give, but by the values we instill in others. Every initiative, idea, and moment of giving is a building block in creating a cohesive society and a nation that flourishes with its people

In light of the UAE’s strong commitment to volunteer work and its support for community initiatives, volunteering has become a national approach that reflects the leadership’s vision of building a cohesive and cooperative society

A Human School Jaber Butti Al Ahbabi explained that the initiatives of the “Watan Volunteer Team” reflect its vision that volunteering is a comprehensive human school that helps strengthen national identity and instill values of loyalty and community commitment. The team believes that building a volunteer is not limited to participation in activities, but also requires training, qualification, and skill development to enable them to perform their social role effectively and responsibly

Volunteering by Example In recognition of the importance of volunteering in serving the nation, strengthening national identity, and raising a generation that values giving, the family of young child Mubarak Al Muhairi has instilled the value of volunteering in him from an early age. His mother, Noura Al Qasimi, said: “When Mubarak turned one year old, his unsteady steps were not just a stage of physical development, but the beginning of a journey we carefully shaped for him. Since volunteering at this age does not require speeches but daily simple practices, Mubarak would observe his parents distributing water to workers during the heat or smiling at strangers. That smile was his first lesson in emotional volunteering, resulting from an educational approach based on love rather than .obligation, where giving is encouraged as an act of heroes rather than imposed
